‘Fouets et Badines’ is what Hermès calls this classic equestrian-inspired design. Translated from French to ‘Whips & Grips,’ the complex weave patterns and intricately embellished handles are examples of pieces collected by Emile Hermès himself. Often printed on their classic silk scarves, this design has been hand-painted onto a 35cm Vache Naturelle Sellier Kelly with Gold Hardware from 1993, creating a fresh and new bag from two pieces of Hermès each many decades old. Vache Naturelle is one of Hermès’ Heritage leathers, and is assembled with natural beeswax coated linen thread, and afforded no foil for its brand stamp. The artwork was completed earlier this year and the bag itself is in excellent condition with minimal signs of use or age.
