The Lettre collection was a huge leap forward for Hermès in terms of applying their master leather craft in new ways to the iconic Kelly bag. For the first time ever, multiple leathers in multiple colors are joined seamlessly on the front of a bag, creating bold graphic letters with a story that stretches back almost a hundred years. In 1930 a draughtswoman known now only by her signature Mademoiselle D, was employed by the House, and during her brief year-long employment, created over 60 sketches that remain in the Hermès archives to this day. One of those sketches was for a distinctly Art Deco alphabet that would eventually be produced as the Lettre au Carre print, and inspire the lettre designs of the 28cm Kellygraphie Kellys that are now highly sought after by collectors. The letters H E R M E S (yes, two Es) were produced in very limited edition in a few different colors, though high level VIP clients were given the opportunity to special order any letter of the alphabet they’d like, creating a very daunting task for completionist collectors. This H Kelly is done in subtle shades of deep green and blue, Vert Cypres Epsom leather hugs two stripes of Blue Obscur Sombrero, centered around a piece of Malachite Clemence, topped with cool Palladium hardware. This store fresh bag is from the latest group of colors to be produced.
